Connect Your Website to Google Business

What is Google Business?

Google My Business is a “free and easy-to-use tool for businesses and organizations to manage their online presence across Google, including Search and Maps. By verifying and editing your business information, you can both help customers find you and tell them the story of your business”.

One of the most important reasons to set up a Google My Business profile is that you can manage the information that Google users see when they search for your business, or the products and services that you offer. Having this element of control on your online search results is major!

Step 1: Sign Up and Verify Your Google Business

👉 Click here to sign up and verify your business with Google My Business

👉 For most businesses, Google My Business verification means requesting, receiving, and reading a verification postcard from Google. Sign up and verify your business here.

👉 Just follow the steps in their guide, it’s a very simple process (Google has these resources)

Step 2: Connect to Google and set it up through Squarespace

👉 Remove your site-wide password or page password on your homepage if either are enabled. Passwords prevent Google from indexing your content.

**If you have a third-party domain, ensure it's connected properly. For best results, we recommend waiting 72 hours after you connect your domain before verifying it with Google Search Console.

**Verification with Google Search Console won't work on trial sites because trial sites are hidden from search engines. If your site is in trial, publish your site before continuing.  A Google account is required to sign up for Search Console.

Step 3: Connect and verify your site in the "The Search Keywords" Panel and return later to review the data

👉 In the Home Menu, click Analytics

👉 Click Search Keywords

👉 Click Connect in the panel's pop-up

👉 Log into the Google account you want to connect to your site.
If you have multiple Google accounts, ensure you select the correct one.

👉 Review the permissions, then click Allow. Wait 72 hours for the data to populate.

Your Google My Business profile should exist in tandem or alongside of your Squarespace website. One should always go with the other.  Google My Business complements your existing website by giving your business a public identity and presence with a Business Profile on Google. The information you provide about your business can appear on Google Search, Maps, and Google+.

So even if you have already verified your Squarespace website with Google Search Console, you should still take it a step further by setting up a Google My Business profile.
